Returning May 31 - June 2, 2024!

The 2020 Virtual Cosplay Contest

Without a physical costume contest, we are hosting a digital display competition. Entries will, as always, be judged on the craftsmanship of the costumes, accuracy of the cosplay, attention to detail, and uniqueness of character interpretation. There will also be a Best in Show award that will judge contestants on performance and energy shown in the modelling, lighting and camera work that may influence the judging, as well as any editing.

The Experienced Cosplayer category is for anyone who has entered a cosplay contest before, regardless of any prizes won. If this is not your first contest, you should be entering the Experienced Cosplayer category.

The Experienced Cosplayers Group category is for any group that has more than one cosplayer who has entered a cosplay contest before. Members of a group submission cannot also submit their same cosplays from the group to individual categories; however, you may enter a different cosplay for an individual entry as a separate application. The same rule applies to any prop entries.

Rules

  • No nudity. (No costume = no cosplay) Please keep all entries age-appropriate.
  • No profanity allowed.
  • To be judged for accuracy, a reference photo may be presented with your entry form; this is not required however it is recommended; it should be a good quality full view photo in colour.
  • Anyone who violates the rules of the competition will be disqualified from the competition.

FAQ

Q - Should I be investing in photo and/or video software?

A - We are not going to be judging exclusively on the quality of photo/video. Yes, that is a good bonus, but some people can have beautifully shot photos and no energy/personality showing. Quality and fancy editing does not automatically give you a higher score.

Q - Do I need to have a professional photographer or videographer?

A - No, you do not. If you have one available to you it is not prohibited but you are required to give credit to the person behind the camera at all times. If you do not have a professional, ask a family member or person in your bubble to help, but selfie sticks or propping your phone up in a good location is also perfectly valid.

Q - How many photos should I submit?

A - As many as you would like! We recommended at least 3 photos to show a variety of poses that show off the costume. Also, more detailed photos of any sewing or details should be submitted for consideration if you would like to highlight them.

Q - If I submit a video entry do I also need to submit photos?

A - It is not required as long as the video shows a full view of the costume. It is also recommended to submit photos of any detailed sewing or craftsmanship even for the video entries.

The 2020 Virtual Y-Con Cosplay Contest runs until September 7th!
